Coimbatore: Makkal Neethi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Hassan has given a petition to the Coimbatore district collector urging to ensure Gram Sabha meetings are held. Haasan reached Coimbatore on Sunday to attend a programme of thanks-giving to the voters but in the wake of rising cases of Covid-19 pandemic, the event was cancelled.
On Monday, Haasan reached district Collector Dr GS Sameeran's office to hand over the petition. Gram Sabha meetings were not held since January 2020 and the party, which was concentrating on the development for the gram panchayats for the last three years, his petition read.

He also requested the Tamil Nadu government to announce the allocation of funds for gram panchayats with a separate annexure in the budget. Notably, MNM President had lost the Coimbatore South constituency in the recent concluded Assembly elections.
