Prime Minister mentioned Mohan, who runs a saloon in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, for his contribution in managing COVID-19 pandemic. ETV Bharat speaks to Mohan on his efforts and commitment amid COVID-19 lockdown.

Madurai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the 65th edition of his monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat', the final day of the fourth phase of nationwide lockdown. In his speech, Prime Minister mentioned Mohan, who runs a saloon in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, for his contribution in managing COVID-19 pandemic.

According to reports, Mohan spent the money he had saved for his daughter's future, to help the poor who were severely affected by nationwide lockdown.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Mohan said, "People who were visiting my saloon told me how people are suffering during this lockdown. At that time, I thought that I somehow need to help those people. I saved nearly five Lakh rupees for my daughter Nethraa's future. My daughter told me to spend the amount for the poor."

According to Mohan, money can be earned at any time, but life once lost will never come back. So Mohan decided to spend the money for them with full-fledged support from his family members.

The Madurai resident brought essential items like rice, vegetables and distributed them to the needy. Till this day, he is continuing his efforts to mitigate the hardship of pandemic-induced lockdown.

Mohan further went to a level, which many think twice before stepping in. He mortgaged some jewellery, an essential source of savings, to continue his solitary fight against COVID-19.

"I'm very glad that Prime Minister Modi mentioned about me in Man ki Baat," said a visibly pleased Mohan.

"I thought that there is no need for anything, other than helping the poor people. So I supported my father's decision whole heartedly" says Nethraa, who is currently enrolled in class 9.
