Kamal Haasan gets anticipatory bail on his 'Hindu terrorist' remark

The actor-turned-politician, Kamal Haasan, who bore the brunt of criticism for his remarks on Nathuram Godse, secured anticipatory bail from the Madras High Court on Monday. He had claimed that free India's first extremist was a Hindu, a reference to Nathuram Godse.

Chennai: The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday, granted anticipatory bail to actor-politician Kamal Haasan in the case filed against him for his remarks on Nathuram Godse.

Earlier, Haasan, founder of new political outfit Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), kicked up a controversy with his comment that 'free India's first extremist was a Hindu', a reference to Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Godse.

Haasan made the comment in a locality were Muslims lived in large numbers.

His comment created a huge row nationwide and police complaints were filed in Aravakuruchi against Haasan for trying to create enimity between communities.

Makkal Needhi Maiam founder Kamal Haasan had also defended his comments on Mahatma Gandhi's assassin, saying that terrorists abound in all religions.

Chennai, May 20 (IANS) The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to actor-politician Kamal Haasan in the case filed against him for his Hindu extremist comment.



Campaigning for his party Makkal Needhi Maiam's (MNM) candidate in the bye-election for the Aravakuruchi Assembly constituency, the actor speaking about the killer of Mahatma Gandhi, said: "The first extremist of independent India was a Hindu -- Nathuram Godse. It all started from there."
