Tuticorin: Four people were asphyxiated in the Tuticorin district on Thursday when they were engaged in cleaning of a septic tank in a nearby village.
The incident happened in Chekkarakudi village, 25 km from here, when two of the deceased first entered the tank to clean it and died.
When the other two entered the tank to check, they were also asphyxiated, police said.
On receiving information, the Thattaparai police and fire and rescue services personnel from the Srivaikuntam station rushed to the spot. They retrieved the bodies from the tank. The bodies were taken to the Thoothukudi Government Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.
A case was registered and a probe is on, police added.
