Chennai: An elephant was killed after it was hit by a truck on a highway in Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu.
The 40-year-old male elephant was crossing the Hosur National Highway at Barandapalli on Saturday night when the incident occurred.
The hind legs of the elephant were injured which left the elephant without any movement.
The Hosur Forest Department rescued the elephant and got him treated but the tusker died Sunday morning.

The driver of the container truck has been booked under the Wildlife Conservation Act 1972 and the truck has been seized.
The place where the accident took place is already an accident zone and many warning signs have been placed by the forest department.
Forest activists have since long suggested installing solar lights in the zone to prevent such accidents.
