Chennai: A police head constable was arrested on Friday for allegedly misbehaving with a woman in an inebriated condition in Vadapalani in Chennai.
The police official, identified as Rajiv, from Arumbakkam, attached to the KK Nagar police station, but posted at the MGR Nagar police station on OD basis.
According to sources, the incident took place at around 10 pm on Sunday, when Rajiv was on his way home after work.
He stopped his two-wheeler at the bus stop near Vadapalani and allegedly misbehaved with a woman there. The eyewitness said that Rajiv allegedly grabbed the woman and asked her to come with him.
Following this, the public questioned the cop, and since he was inebriated, they attacked him though he was in uniform.
The video of constable Rajiv being bashed up by a crowd of people went viral on social media. As the constable suffered injuries, he was released on station bail. He was also suspended and departmental action was initiated against him, sources said.
Meanwhile, Suspended constable Rajiv has lodged a complaint that he just asked those women, who were standing in the road late at night, to go home immediately.
In his complaint, "At that time localities gathered and started arguing with me. As the argument went further, few local people started hitting me with helmets. So legal actions need to be taken against them."
Based on the complaint, Vadapalani police arrested Thangamani (24), Vignesh (24), Aswin Krishna (26), Arun, Karthik (23) and registered cases.
