Chennai: India's public service broadcaster Prasar Bharati suspended R Vasumathi, Assistant Director, Doordarshan Kendra in Tamil Nadu's Chennai for allegedly failing to live telecast PM Modi's event at IIT-Madras.
According to reports, Vasumathi will face disciplinary proceedings and has been placed under suspension with immediate effect.
Besides, the Assistant Director (programme) will not be permitted to leave the headquarters without obtaining previous permission from the Chief Executive Officer.
Prime Minister was on a visit to Chennai to attend the 56th annual convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. On his first visit to Tamil Nadu after retaining power in this year's Lok Sabha polls, the Prime Minister reiterated his campaign against single-use plastic.
In his address at the 56th Convocation of IIT-Madras here, he had said that the graduating students were passing out at a time "when the world is looking at India as a land of unique opportunities."
"I just returned from America. During this visit, I met many heads of states, business leaders, innovators, investors. In our discussions there was one thread common--it was optimism about new India. And the confidence in the abilities of young people of India," he had said.
