Case against PFI members over ED raids

A case has been registered against 50 members of the Popular Front of India (PFI) for protesting against the ED's raid at the properties linked to the organisation. The ED raided about 26 locations across nine states linked to PFI yesterday.

Chennai: An FIR has been registered against 50 members of the Popular Front of India (PFI) who protested against the Enforcement Directorate's raid at the offices of PFI.

Enforcement directorate, yesterday raided properties linked to the organisation in about 26 locations across nine states including Tamil Nadu. The raids took place at the residences and offices of executives of the organisation. In Tamil Nadu, the ED inspected three places in Chennai and one each in Madurai and Tenkasi.

According to sources, the raids came in the backdrop of the probe into PFI’s irregular funding and the finances of the executives. Accordingly, when the ED raided the office at Mookkuthala area of Chennai which is the state headquarters of the PFI, 50 members led a protest under the South Chennai District Chairman Abu Bakar Siddiqui to condemn it.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case against the 50 members, including Abu Bakar under several acts including the Infectious Diseases Prevention Act. The investigation is still on.
