Karur (Tamil Nadu): A BJP candidate in Tamil Nadu erased Prime Minister Narendra Modi's name from campaign advertisements because he apparently believes it won't win votes in his constituency.
Ex-IPS officer Annamalai is the BJP's candidate in Aravakurichi constituency. Aravakurichi, Pallappatti, Chinnatharapuram and Eesanatham constituency in Karur district have a large Muslim population.
The BJP is an electoral partner of the governing AIADMK of late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in polls.
The campaign team of Annamalai is said to have replaced Modi's name with Jayalalithaa in the hope it was a better option to attract the voters.
The edited campaign slogans now say 'candidate blessed by Amma' - a reference to Jayalalithaa, instead of Modi.
