Actor Sarathkumar gets relief, court suspends sentence

A special court granted relief to actor Sarathkumar. Sarathkumar and his wife Raadhikaa had been earlier sentenced to one-year imprisonment in two-cheque bounce cases.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu): Actor Sarathkumar on Wednesday got relief from the special court after he had been sentenced to a one-year jail term in a cheque bounce case. The actor couple filed a petition to suspend the one-year imprisonment awarded by the special court.

The actor's counsel pleaded to suspend the imprisonment as they had planned to challenge the case in Madras High Court. Taking the arguments into consideration, the court suspended the imprisonment for actor Sarathkumar and refused to give relief for Raadhikaa as she had not turned up to the court.

Earlier, a court in Chennai, sentenced actor Sarathkumar and wife and actress Raadhikaa Sarathkumar to one-year imprisonment in a cheque bounce case. In 2019, the Madras HC had declined to quash the criminal proceedings in two-cheque bounce cases pending against the actor couple.

Radiance Media Private Limited at Nandanam, a firm lending money for production of movies, had lent huge sums to Magic Frames at Teynampet, in which Sarathkumar, his wife Raadhikaa and one Listin Stephen are partners, in 2014, the New Indian Express reported. To repay the amount, Sarathkumar had issued undated cheques, but they bounced in March 2017.
