1.2 kg of meth seized from passenger at Coimbatore airport

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Saturday seized 1.2 kg of methamphetamine from a passenger at the Coimbatore international airport. The value of the drug in the International market was estimated to be more than Rs. 1 crore.

Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu): The Central Industrial Security Force personnel seized 1.2 kg of methamphetamine drug from a passenger at the Coimbatore international airport on Saturday.

The drug was found concealed in a briefcase carried by the passenger identified as Nagarathinam(44), a resident of Thuvakudi in Trichy. The value of the drug in the International market was estimated to be more than Rs. 1 crore.

Nagarathinam was on his way to board the flight to Sharja with an empty suitcase. He earlier told the CISF personnel that his friend, who was standing in front of the airport main gate, had given him the suitcase.

The CISF officials scanned the suitcase and found a salt-like substance concealed in the suitcase. The officials handed it over to customs officials who tested it and confirmed that it was methamphetamine.

Nagarathinam was detained by the CISF personnel. Further investigations are underway.
