Would have sat at home rather than joining BJP: Murari Lal Meena

Dausa (Rajasthan): Murari Lal Meena, one of the Congress MLAs who supported former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot during his rebellion against Ashok Gehlot government, has said that he would have sat at home rather joining the BJP.

"We were never saleable, nor we will be ever. I would have preferred sitting at home than joining the BJP," he said.

The Congress MLA was responding to queries on the political crisis in Rajasthan that had emerged due to the rebellion by Pilot.

On why and how the crisis started, Meena said that MLAs were dissatisfied with the way eastern parts of the state were being ignored and there were issues that were not being addressed.

"We had played a great role in the formation of the government but we felt neglected in the government schemes," he told ETV Bharat, adding that there was also a "lack of clarity" in the overall functioning of the government.

"We wanted to discuss the issues with the Congress leadership but then it got delayed," the Dausa MLA said.

He said then the BJP, trying to gain mileage from the crisis, termed it as a "pre-planned" move.

Cautioning that if the Congress fails to implement the required changes in the governance as has been promised by the Congress high command, he said the party would have to bear the loss in the next assembly elections in 2023.

Pilot had revolted against the Gehlot government and was camping in Delhi for the last one month with his 18 loyalist MLAs. He returned after the matter was resolved following the intervention of senior party leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and K C Venugopal.
