Barmer (Rajasthan): After causing havoc in several parts of north India, the menace of the migratory locust have devastated crops in southern India also.
Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, Kailash Choudhary has blamed Pakistan for not checking the breeding of the pests in that country’s desert area bordering Rajasthan in India.
Speaking to media persons, Choudhury said, "India has offered pesticides to Pakistan but there was no response from them. Pakistan has not checked the breeding of the pests in that country’s desert area bordering Rajasthan and now we are suffering. Pakistan is not sharing any information regarding the locust attack due to which the locusts have spread to many parts of the country."
"Iran had sought help from India to control the locusts, on which India had sent 20, 000 litres of pesticide to Iran. The government is also planning to eliminate the locust attack on the border. In the coming days, more locust swarms are going to enter India, but we have made full preparations," Choudhury said.
Notably, the huge swarms of locusts transit from Pakistan to India. The first locust attack of this year was reported from Ganganagar, a district in north Rajasthan bordering Pakistan on May 11.
