Three electrocuted to death after girl falls into rainwater-filled ditch in Rajasthan's Jodhpur

The incident took place at Mandla village where a girl fell into the rain filled ditch in which a live wire from a utility pole had fallen.

Jodhpur: In a tragic incident, a girl who fell into a rain-filled ditch was electrocted to death even as two more persons also died in the mishap during rescue operation in a village in Rajasthan's Jodhpur on Tuesday evening, officials said. According to a police official at the Dechu police station, the mishap took place in Mandla village of Jodhpur at around 7 pm on Tuesday.

A police official informed that 15-year-old girl named Varsha, daughter of Bhajanlal Vishnoi fell into a rainwater filled ditch in the evening. Soon after the incident, the family members launched a rescue operation and desperately tried to save the girl. While the rescue operation was going on, a wire hanging from the nearby utility pole came in contact with the rainwater in the well leading to her electrocution.

In the meantime, seven men from the locality who also jumped into the well to save the girl and were unaware about the fallen live wire, were also electrocuted due to the current. After a while into the rescue operation, locals standing nearby came to know about the live wire and removed it from the ditch.

In the ensuing rescue efforts lasting for hours by the locals, eight people including the drowned girl were shifted to the nearby Dechu hospital for treatment. At the hospital, the doctors declared the girl Varsha and two more youth as brought dead. The two men have been identified as Shravan and Gogi.

Five others were injured in the incident. The coindition of two of the injured persons is said to be serious and they have been referred to a tertiary care hospital in Jodhpur for specialized treatment, an officials said. The remaining are undergoing treatment at Dechu Hospital.Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
