Rajasthan: Youth slits throats of sleeping uncle, three other family members; 7-month-old girl not spared

Youth slits throats of sleeping uncle, three other family members; 7-month-old girl not spared

Jodhpur (Rajasthan): Ghastly murders of four members of the same family including a seven-month-old girl in Osian police station area in Rajasthan's Jodhpur in early hours of Wednesday sent shockwaves in the state.

The victims were residents of Gangaani ki Dhani of Ramnagar Gram Panchayat and they were identified as Poonaram Baird,55, head of the family, his wife Bhanwari Devi, 50, daughter-in-law Dhapu, 24, and his seven-month-old granddaughter.

According to the police, an attempt has also been made to burn their dead bodies. Rural Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh Yadav along with a police team visited the spot. He said a forensic team is arriving from Jodhpur for a detailed investigation.

The killer has slit the throats of the four victims when they were sleeping. After that the miscreants set on fire the hut where victims lived. The body of the 7-months-old child was totally burnt while the bodies of the remaining three were found half-burnt, police said.

Police detained 20-year-old Pappuram, son of deceased Poonaram's elder brother Bheraram, in connection with the murder. He has confessed about his involvement in the murders, cops said. SP Rural Dharmendra Singh Yadav said Pappuram's brother Tejaram had committed suicide seven to eight months ago in Surat. Pappuram believed that uncle Poonaram had got him murdered. He had also quarreled many times over this. Troubled over constant quarrel, Poonaram had also once casually spoke about his involvement in the murder. After that, Pappuram had decided to take revenge.

On Tuesday night, he took the advantage of absence of Poonaram's sons at the house. At 4 am in the morning on Wednesday, he reached the farm and attacked Poonaram, who was sleeping outside with an axe. thereafter, he killed his aunt. When he entered inside, he saw sister-in-law Dhapu was sleeping and killed her along with her seven-month-old daughter. After that both the dead bodies were dragged from outside and brought inside. He poured one litre of kerosene and lit the fire and fled.
