Jaipur: According to the National Crime Records Bureau, in the year 2019, a total of 45,935 cases of harassment against Scheduled Castes were registered. Of these, 6,794 cases were registered in Rajasthan, which is 14.80 per cent of the total cases registered in the country.
In such a situation, the most alarming thing is that the number of crimes against Scheduled Castes has been continuously increasing in the last 3 years.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Ravi Prakash Mehrada, ADG Civil Rights, said that both the Rajasthan government and its police are quite alert in the cases of women harassment.
On the directions of CM Ashok Gehlot, all Police Superintendents have been ordered to look into cases where atrocities against women are registered. The complaints have not been registered properly till now which have caused an increase in this sort of cases, he said.
"Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has also told the top police officers to not be alarmed by the rising crime figures that have been recorded. If we notice the year 2020, from January to August, 3498 cases of rape have been registered in the state. However, when the cases registered were investigated, 42.87 per cent of them were found to be fake, in which the police presented FIR in the court," he said.
Similarly, in the case of rape of minor girls, from January 2020 to August, a total of 1,930 cases were registered in the state, out of which 25 per cent cases were found to be fake as well, he added.
The constant increase in atrocities against women
The biggest concern of Rajasthan is the cases of women harassment which are increasing every year.
In 2017, as many as 25,560 cases were registered in the state. In the year 2018, a total of 27,594 cases of female atrocities were registered in the state.
Similarly, in the year 2019, the cases of female harassment increased significantly and a total of 41,155 cases were registered.
If the percentage of cases of female atrocities registered in the years 2018 and 2019 is left out, then there has been a 50 per cent increase in these cases.
Increase in the cases of Dalit oppression
If the last 3 years are taken into consideration, then in the year 2017, a total of 43,203 cases of Dalit oppression were registered in the country, out of which 4,238 cases were registered in Rajasthan.
In the year 2018, as many as 42, 793 cases of Dalit oppression were registered in the country, out of which 4,607 cases were registered in Rajasthan.
Similarly, in the year 2019, 45,935 cases of Dalit oppression were registered in the country, out of which 6,794 cases were registered in Rajasthan.
In 2019, 25.8 per cent of cases were registered in Uttar Pradesh, 14.8 per cent in Rajasthan, 14.2 per cent in Bihar and 11.5 per cent in Madhya Pradesh.
Opposition confronts the government
Rajasthan has become second in the country in crimes against Dalits, which have been revealed from the list released by the National Crime Records Bureau.
At the same time, the government is being confronted and criticized by the opposition on the cases of increasing Dalit oppression in Rajasthan.
Recently, after the rape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit girl in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, the Congress government is now being whipped by the BJP on the increasing Dalit harassment cases in their state, Rajasthan. BJP MP Dia Kumari has also raised her voice against the Rajasthan government, citing the National Crime Records Bureau.
Many BJP leaders are questioning the mechanism of the Rajasthan Government and Police.
