After earning a place in the India Book of Records for tying the smallest Rajasthani turbans on fingers, Pawan Vyas of Bikaner now claims the record for the world's biggest turban as well.

Bikaner: Rajasthan's Pawan Vyas, who already has his name registered in the India Book of Records for tying the smallest Rajasthani turbans on fingers, on Wednesday claimed to have tied the biggest turban - 1475 feet - in the world.

He said turban up to 400 meters has been tied but today he tied the turban of 450 meters (1475 feet), adding that no such a long turban was ever tied and he did it in just half an hour by tying it on the head of Rahul Shankar Thanvi, another famous personality who is known for his moustaches.

Thanvi, after getting the longest 'safa' tied on his said, that it felt a bit heavy initially but then he got comfortable with it.

The youth from Bikaner, Rajasthan, who knows 107 ways of draping a turban, says there is a difference between pagdi and safa.

Pagdi is longer than 21 metres and safa is between nine to 11 metres, he said, adding that he had this mind of tying a longest 'safa' in the world one day and he has done it today.

“I have been doing this for 11 years. Last August, I made it to the India Book of Records for tying the smallest Rajasthani turbans on fingers.” Vyas said.

In Pawan's family, his father, uncle and brother also know the art of tying turbans, which is being forgotten with the passage of time. In all major functions of Bikaner, they are the ones who would be invited to tie the turbans.
