Alwar: The mortal remains of CRPF jawan Ajit Singh Yadav were consigned to flames at his ancestral village in Rajasthan's Alwar district on Wednesday.
Singh succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday at a hospital in Chhattisgarh's Raipur district after he was injured in an encounter with Maoists in Bijapur district of the state on February 10.
"The body was taken to Ganda village by road and the funeral was conducted," Hardayal, SHO of Neemrana police station said.
Thousands of people paid tributes to the martyr and the last rites were performed by his elder son with the state honours at the playing ground of the Senior Secondary School in the village.
CRPF IG, Collector Indrajit Singh, Bhiwadi SP Amandeep Kapoor, Alwar MP Baba Balaknath, MLA Baljit Yadav, BJP leader Balwan Singh, BJP leader Mohit Yadava, Congress leader RC Yadav and many others paid floral tributes to Singh.
He had joined the 204 Cobra Battalion in the year 1994.
Ajit suffered bullet injuries during an encounter between CRPF's Cobra Battalion and Maoists near Bijapur. Two soldiers were killed on the spot while six including Ajit were critically injured.
