Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh): Many tourists who arrived in India on tourist visas had continued staying in India, even after the expiry of their visa. Some of them reportedly joined Tablighi Jamaat group to continue their stay in the country. Subsequently, the Markaz gathering took place and allegedly the group was responsible for the increase in the number of COVID-19 positive cases.
Their samples were taken and were kept in special jails. Few among the visa norm violators and who joined Tablighi Jamaat were from Kyrgyzstan.
Saharanpur District Jail Superintendent Dr Veeresh Raj Sharma told that the Ambassador, Advocate and Secretary of Kyrgyzstan had visited the Saharanpur jail to follow up the facilities provided in the District Prison to the Kyrgyzstan inmates.
Reportedly Saharanpur District Jail, has 57 Tablighi, out of which 21 are residents of Kyrgyzstan, whom the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan visited and assured that they will be soon taken back to their country.
