Jodhpur: Asha Kandara, a sanitary worker with the Jodhpur Municipal Corporation (North) and a single mother to two children, has qualified for the Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) examination, in one attempt. The results of the RAS 2018 exam were announced on Tuesday night where she attained 728th rank in the state.
In an exclusive interaction with ETV Bharat, Asha, who once swept the streets of Jodhpur, was an Army aspirant but after passing inter she was married. After separating from her husband eight years ago, she preferred to take the responsibility for her children on her own and started working as a municipal worker.

Even after facing many ups and downs, Asha never gave up. Refusing to bow down to the challenges of life, she completed her graduation 16 years after passing the 12th standard and decided to become a RAS officer. She filled the form for RAS Recruitment in 2018 and cleared the pre-exam in the next year and simultaneously applied for the post of sweeper in the Municipal Corporation to support her family.
She continued studying for the RAS exam even while rendering her duties as a sweeper. Meanwhile, just 12 days before the announcement of RAS results, she was given a permanent position as a sanitary worker. Talking to ETV Bharat, she gave the credit of her success to her parents for not giving up on her.

"My hard work has yielded results and my dreams have come true. Patience is the key to success and we can achieve anything with it. No work is small it's just in your perception," she said. Highlighting the importance of education she said, "People should study to make your dreams come true because there is nothing without education. We can make time for studies."
Speaking about being independent, Asha said that women can do wonders. "There is no work that a woman cannot do," she added. Notably, Asha's son is a graduate while her daughter has qualified for IIT JEE.
