Jaisalmer: A remote-operated reconnaissance Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) belonging to the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer today. The plane crash was reported near the Amar Shaheed Sagarmal Gopa Colony area in the vicinity of the city. The small plane crashed in a non-populated part of the area. No casualties were reported in the accident.
The reconnaissance plane used by the Air Force is only slightly larger than a drone with no pilot. It is speculated that the said UAV was on a trial sortie and a technical flaw could be the most probable reason behind the crash.
The matter has been acknowledged by the local police as well as the army officials and an investigation is underway. The army took the reconnaissance plane in its possession as soon as the accident came to light.
According to an official, the reason behind the crash is yet to be ascertained. "The cause of the crash will be ascertained through an inquiry," the official said.
