Bharatpur (Rajasthan): A migrant worker in Rajasthan's Bharatpur has stolen a bicycle and pedaled over 260 kilometres with his son to Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly.
However, the most heartbreaking thing is the emotion penned in the apology note that he left behind to express his act of desperation.
The migrant worker has been identified as Mohammad Iqbal of Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly.
According to sources, Iqbal stole a cycle from the house of one, Sahab Singh of Rarah village in Bharatpur district on Monday night.
On the next day, Singh found the letter near his veranda.
The handwritten letter read," Namaste ji, Main apki cycle lekar ja raha hu. Ho sakey toh mujhe maaf kar dena kyunki mere pass koi sadhan nahi hai aur ek bachcha hai uske liye mujhe aisa karna pada kyunki woh viklang hai, chal nahin sakta. Humein Bareilly tak jaana hai."
("Namaste ...I’m taking your bicycle. Please forgive me if you can as I had no other option and I have a child for whom I did this. He is specially-abled and cannot walk. We have to go to Bareilly.")
After reading this letter, the cycle owner Sahab Singh decided not to lodge a complaint of bicycle theft with the police.
On being informed about the incident, Sahab Singh's elder brother Prabhu Dayal said,"Someone had stolen our bicycle and we think that this act is done by a villager. We will find out who has stolen this bicycle."
Since the nationwide lockdown, hundreds of migrant labourers suddenly found themselves out of jobs and set off on foot or by hitchhiking to get home.
While many died of exhaustion on walking their way back or met with accidents on highways or railway tracks, this story of a migrant worker has emerged which is sure to leave everyone in tears.
