Jaipur: "I feed her properly and have provided her with an entire house to live but I cannot keep her with me because she is mentally unstable. Even the doctors have told that no medicines work at her age" - These were the words of 80-year-old Basanti Khandelwal's younger son Gaurishankar when he was asked why he is not living with his mother.
Basanti Khandelwal's deplorable condition is an example of children neglecting their aged parents and considering them as a burden.
Basanti's life has been made hell by her own son ever since her husband expired.
Neighbours revealed that Gaurishankar leaves her alone on a cot in the gallery of her old house, feeds her stale food, and often gives her sleeping pills.
She also doesn't have access to clean drinking water and remains unclean for several days.
Gaurishankar, who is living with his wife and children in an apartment, also reportedly takes away Basanti's pension.
Basanti Khandelwal's elder son, who could have been a light of hope for her, was also kicked out from the house by Gaurishankar because of his weak financial position.
