Jaipur (Rajasthan): The customs department at Jaipur International Airport on Saturday arrested five people who were planning to smuggle around 10 kg ganja worth Rs 1.5 crore to the US. The accused tried to smuggle ganja by hiding it in clothes.
The arrested are identified as Jatin Goyal, Himanshu Sharma and Mudit Singh from Jaipur, and Jatin Grover and Anil Patel from Gujarat's Ahmedabad. An official communique from the customs department stated that it first recovered 715 gm ganja from their possession. Upon a thorough investigation, they seized another nine packets of marijuana, weighing 9 kg.
Gold worth 22 lakh seized
In another case, the customs department seized 463 gm of gold worth at least Rs 22 lakh from a passenger who was en route to Jaipur from Dubai. The customs officers intercepted a passenger who arrived from the UAE by an Air India morning flight and recovered the gold that was neatly concealed in the wheels of skating shoes, the communique stated.
