Family expresses happiness over justice in Raja Man Singh murder case

Krishnendra Kaur Deepa has expressed happiness over the Mathura court's decision of sentencing eleven former policemen for killing her father Raja Man Singh in 1985. Deepa, who also represented Bharatpur once as a BJP MP, had been pursuing the case since 1985.

Bharatpur: Raja Man Singh’s daughter Krishnendra Kaur Deepa on Wednesday said that she is very happy about the court's decision of sentencing eleven former policemen for killing his father Raja Man Singh.

The Mathura court on Wednesday gave life imprisonment to the eleven former policemen from Rajasthan for killing Raja Man Singh of the erstwhile Bharatpur royal family and his two colleagues over 35 years ago in Deeg area of the state.

Paying tributes to her father at Man Singh Circle in Bharatpur, Deepa said, "I am very happy with the court's decision. Though it took 35 long years...but at least justice was served."

Krishnendra Kaur Deepa was also the tourism minister in the last BJP government in Rajasthan. The CBI court hearing was shifted to Mathura from Rajasthan on a petition in the Supreme Court by her in 1990.

Deepa, who also represented Bharatpur once as a BJP MP, had been pursuing the case since 1985.

Welcoming the court's ruling, Man Singh's grandson Kunwar Dushyant Singh said, "Thirty-five years is a long time. But with the support of family and Bharatpur people, my grandfather got justice."

The case dates back to February 21, 1985, when Raja Man Singh along with two other people - Sumer Singh and Hari Singh - were killed in police firing.

Raja Man Singh was an independent candidate from Deeg assembly constituency in Rajasthan and was campaigning for the same when the incident took place.

Raja Man Singh's son-in-law Vijay Singh had got an FIR registered in Deeg police station about the case.

Few days before the incident, an FIR against Raja Maan Singh was lodged in the same police station for allegedly hitting and destroying the helicopter of the then chief minister, Shivcharan Mathur.
