Doctors remove toothbrush from esophagus of man in Kota

A man in Rajasthan of Kota consumed toothbrush while cleaning his teeth. The doctors removed the brush from the esophagus through endoscopy.

Kota: In a bizarre incident, doctors in Rajasthan removed a six-cm-long toothbrush from a man's gastrointestinal tract as he consumed it while cleaning his teeth.

The family took him to a private hospital after he was suffering from chest pain and breathing issues. The family member's said that the man was not able to consume food after he swallowed the toothbrush.

Gastroenterologist Dr A D Khilji said: "During the test, it was revealed that the toothbrush is stuck in the esophagus."

Dr Khilji and Dr Kapil Gupta planned to remove the brush through endoscopy.

Anaesthesia was given to the patient and the brush was removed from the alimentary canal within 10-12 minutes. He was discharged from the hospital after being under observation for 3 hours.

Dr Khilji said: "Removing toothbrush from the alimentary canal was a challenging task. There was a risk that the alimentary canal can get damaged from the brush."

However, the family members did not reveal the reason behind swallowing the brush.
