Curfew in Rajasthan town after rival groups clash

Police deployed a platoon and ordered a curfew in Sardarsahar town after two groups attacked each other and smashed cars over previous rivalry, according to reports.

Churu (Rajasthan): Several people were injured after two groups clashed over past rivalry in Rajasthan's Churu district on Wednesday.

However, the past enmity and the differences brewed and turned into violence as the locals resorted to attacking each other physically at Sardarsahar.

The two sides allegedly resorted to stone-pelting and vehicle vandalism. As the violent mob vandalised vehicles and damaged public properties during the clash, police had to lob eight tear gas shells and enforced Section 144 in the area.

"The clash was the result of an old grudge between Sardarsahar's Ward-24's councillor and his opponent locals of the village. Members of both the sides came against each other and resorted to violence," said Mahendra Dutt Sharma, SHO, Sardarsahar PS.

"A large number of the police force was rushed to the spot. The situation came under control. Two persons sustained injuries in the clash," Sharma said.

The police have booked over twenty people on charges of endangering the lives of citizens, destruction to public property among other relevant sections.

Meanwhile, one platoon of the police force has been deployed at Sardarsahar town in order to avoid the further untoward situation.

As palpable tension prevailed in the town, prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC was imposed to avert incident of violence here.
