Madhuri Ujjiani, a patient with the Black Fungus infection, said that she was admitted to the hospital on May 1 due to a Covid-19 infection and after 5-days her head started to ache. She was discharged after her Covid report came negative. However, she was diagnosed with Mucormycosis (Black Fungus) disease. Now it has to be operated but an injection - Amphotericin B is needed which is not available in the city.
Madhuri further added that they have written an application addressing the Chief Minister of Rajasthan to make the injections available as soon as possible.
According to Dr Jayaraj Vaishnav, Head of ENT Department in Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia Medical College that the disease of Mucormycosis strikes the patient's sinus and later affects the eye. If it is not controlled in time, it can be fatal. Black Fungus especially affects those people, whose immunity is weak.
The doctor further added that those who have diabetes, are most at risk. Black fungus is generally not a particular threat to people with strong immunity. The number of such patients is also increasing in the last two to three days. If you see common symptoms, then get them tested. The Black Fungus infection can be detected in time and treatment can be done.

The Doctor further said that if the fungus spreads into the eye, then it has to be removed. He added that the patients who spent a long time in hospital and given steroids are also at a greater risk. This is not a new fungus, it used to happen earlier, but very few people used to get infected by it. Covid recovered patients must have a regular checkup after the Covid-19 and can be easily avoided.
