Udaipur (Rajasthan): A virtual rally organised by senior BJP leader and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari is at the centre of a COVID-19 scare, as three workers who attended the rally, along with several leaders, tested positive for novel coronavirus.
According to reports, the rally was organised by Udaipur unit on June 27 at the party headquarters. A large number of people including top state leaders took part in the rally.
The list of leaders who took part in the virtual rally includes Gulab Chand Kataria, the leader of opposition in Rajasthan, senior BJP leader and former speaker Shanti Lal Chaplot, Udaipur rural MLA Phool Singh Meena and other prominent members from state cadre.

The former BJP district president Dinesh Bhatt and several other office bearers were also tested and the reports came back negative. A dozen workers also went into self-isolation following the incident.
According to reports, all primary contacts were traced and tested and reports came back negative. Even though the rally did not turn into a super-spreader in the district, the incident throws light on organising such rallies in the time of the pandemic.
The BJP has been organising virtual rallies across the country to highlight the Narendra Modi government's achievements in the six-year of its second tenure.
It is to be noted that the party had created around 44,000 WhatsApp groups and the invite was sent in all these groups to make these rallies successful.
A total of three BJP workers have tested positive so far in the district, with all having links to this virtual rally.
