'Banyan Man' of Sikar and his thousand trees

Manrup Jethu of Sikar has planted around thousand saplings in the last 31 years. Villagers call him 'Barh wale Baba' (Banyan Man) and respect him for his hard work and love for nature.

Sikar: World Environment Day was celebrated worldwide on June 5, during which people came out to plant saplings and pledged to save the environment. What the environmentalists preached that day is being followed by Manrup Jethu since his youth. This 91-year-old resident of Jethwa village has planted around thousand saplings in the last 31 years.

Villagers call him 'Barh wale Baba' (Banyan Man) and respect him for his hard work and love for nature. This name has an interesting story. Once some people came to his village to cut 'Barh' (banyan) tree. Despite Manrup's resistance, the tree was cut. It urged Manrup to plant a banyan tree in his village. Since then, he started planting saplings in the village.

Manrup has planted more than one thousand saplings in Jamshettha Bas village, Shamshan Ghat and other public places.

Despite his old age, Manrup makes sure that he himself waters these plants. Most of the trees that he planted were peepal. He believes that the peepal tree has religious significance and it also generates round-the-clock oxygen.

The world needs more people like Manrup to realise the need to save the environment and take whatever little steps they can in their lives to make the world a better place to live.

  ये  हैं  सीकर जिले के  जेठवा का बास गांव के रहने वाले  91 साल के बुजुर्ग  मनरूप जेठू, इनका नाम ही मनरूप  जेठू है वैसे लोग इन्हें बड़  वाले बाबा के नाम से जानते हैं।  इस नाम के पीछे इनका प्रकृति प्रेम है ।  "सिर सांठे रूंख तो भी सस्तो जान।" जैसी राजस्थानी कहावत को  ये बाबा आजभी  चरितार्थ   कर  रहे हैं।



Body:मनरूप बाबा पिछले 31  साल में भले ही अलग अलग किस्म के करीब 10 हजार पेड़ लगा चुके हैं लेकिन खास बात यह है कि ये 8 जिलों के करीब 70 गांवों में जाकर बड़ पीपल व नीम के पेड़ लगा चुके हैं। जेठवा का बास गांव के श्मसान घाट व अन्य सार्वजनिक स्थानों पर मनरूप जेठू ने एक हजार से ज्याद पेड़ लगाए हैं। इनमें से कई पेड़ तो अब काफी बड़े हो चुके हैं। ज्यादातर पेड़ों को इन्होंने खुद पानी देकर सींचा है। 91 साल की उम्र के बावजूद भी पेड़ों में रोज पानी जरूर डालकर आते हैं। सुबह इनकी दिनचर्या इसी से शुरू होती है। पेड़ लगाने के साथ-साथ इनको आयुर्वेद का भी अच्छा ज्ञान है। आयुर्वेद की दवाइयों से जो पैसे मिलते हैं उनसे भी यह पेड़ ही खरीद कर लाते हैं और गांव में लगाते हैं।  जिस गांव में पेड़ लगाने जाते हैं वहां भी यह किसी से पैसे नहीं लेते।


इस तरह मिली प्रेरणा


बाबा बताते हैं कि आज से 31 साल पहले कुछ लोग बड़ का पेड़ काट रहे थे। उनको मना किया तो नहीं माने। उन्होंने गांव में इस बड़ के पेड़ का डाल लाकर लगाया था। वह पेड़ लग गया तो ठान लिया कि हर जगह को हराभरा बनाएंगे। बड़ पीपल से इस लिए लगाव हुआ कि इनका धार्मिक महत्व है और ये पेड़ 24 घंटे ऑक्सिजन छोड़ते हैं। गांव में इनके लगाए बड़ पीपल के पेड़ अब काफी बड़े हो चुके हैं। इसके बाद तो जहां गए वहीं बड़, पीपल व नीम के पेड़ लगाकर आए।
