Jodhpur: Controversial self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, serving a life sentence in connection with a rape case, earlier was infected with Covid-19 and on Saturday shifted to AIIMs in Jodhpur after his health condition worsened.
Asaram was admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital after he tested positive for COVID19 on Wednesday. Later, he was shifted to the ICU ward after he complained of chest pain, restlessness, and other ailments.
The hospital authority informed that he had been facing breathing difficulty and his oxygen level was very low. When his SpO2 level became 96 last night, hospital authorities shifted him to Jodhpur AIIMS.
Soon after his health report grabbed media attention, his followers started gathering near the hospital.
Speaking to media persons, AIIMS superintendent, Rajashree Behra said that Asam's condition is good now. When he was shifted to AIIMS, his condition was not well but now, he is totally asymptomatic.
Asaram is currently serving a life sentence in Jodhpur prison after being convicted and sentenced in the rape case.
Earlier, he had filed an appeal in the Rajasthan High Court against his sentencing in the rape case.
Asaram was sentenced to life imprisonment by an SC/ST court in the case of rape of a 16-year-old girl.
In 2013, a minor girl had accused Asaram of raping her at Manai Ashram near Jodhpur. He was later arrested from Indore in Madhya Pradesh in 2014.
