Ajmer (Rajasthan): Neglected by her children, a nonagenarian from Rajasthan's Ajmer approached the district collector, pleading for refuge in an old-age home.
92-year-old Premvati, a resident of Ajmer's Bhakti Dham colony, had been residing at an old-age home in the city for the past eight months. Her husband and a son had passed away long back, and since then, her other three children abandoned her.
However, she was recently evicted from the old-age home after she complained of paralysis.
She then adopted two youths as her Godsons to take care of her, but the duo stole all her money and jewellery, and abandoned her.
A neighbour, who had been looking after the wheelchair-bound old lady for the past one week, brought her to the district collector's office, and submitted a memorandum seeking refuge for her.
"I hope they give me some place where I can stay for a few days. If nothing else, it would be for the better if I just die," said a teary-eyed Premvati.
"The collector has given assurance that arrangements will be made for her. Her children live in the same city, but have not maintained any relation with her. I looked after her for a week, and cannot continue doing so," the woman's neighbour Khamchand said.
"She used to survive on her pension. The previous old-age home showed her the door during the pandemic. Due to COVID no other home was accepting her," he added.
