Class 9 boy develops solar train model aiming to reduce pollution

A Class 9 student from a small village in Rajasthan made a model of a train that runs on solar energy. He hopes to become a loco pilot in the future.

Nagaur: A ninth-grader from a small village in Rajasthan found an alternative to reduce the emission of fuel and control air pollution.

Sunil has developed a model of a train in his field. The highlight of his creation is that the engine runs on solar energy.

The model consists of railway tracks and crossings. The wheels of the engine are made from bottle's cap, wrapped with copper wire on it. These wires were connected to the motor of the engine.

Equipped with a battery that runs on solar energy drawn from the track, one copper wire is exposed to the iron line and the other wire flows the electricity through the whole system. The current flows through the copper wire in the wheels of the engine kept on the tracks.

To make the model, Sunil has mostly used waste materials from his home. His father Ratnam said some of the items, like the motor, were bought from the market.

Ratnam runs his house through farming and works a labourer. He wants his son to become a renowned railway officer, however, Sunil dreams to become a locomotive pilot.
