16 MGNREGA workers hospitalised after inhaling anti-locust spray in Jaipur

As many as 16 MGNREGA workers were hospitalised after accidentally inhaling chemical insecticide in Rajasthan's Jaipur district. The workers complained of dizziness, vomiting, and headache after inhaling the spray which was meant to thwart locust swarms.

Jaipur (Rajasthan): As many as 16 MGNREGA workers were hospitalised on Wednesday after they inhaled insecticides which were sprayed to thwart locust swarms in Rajasthan's Jaipur district.

According to reports, the agriculture department had sprayed insecticides in Jaisinghpura to combat the locust swarms which have been ravaging fields last night.

There was an MGNREGA work site situated at a close distance from the pot where the insecticide was sprayed. When workers came to the site, next morning, many of them fell ill.

"We came to the site at 7 am. The vehicles spraying the insecticide had already left, but with the winds blowing towards us, many of us fell sick," said Seema Meena, a worker at the site.

As many as 16 workers were taken to the local hospital with complaints of headaches, dizziness and vomiting.

They were later referred to the community health centre (CHC) in Paota, where they are undergoing treatment.

"About 16 workers were brought after accidentally being poisoned with insecticide. The situation is under control. All of them are in a healthy condition and will soon be discharged," said a doctor at the CHC.
