New Delhi: Punjab ranked top for sanitation in Swachh Survekshan Awards 2019 announced by the ministry of housing and urban affairs on Wednesday.
Punjab was ranked 4th in overall average celebration score, 5th in service level program and 4th in direct observation average.
Reportedly, Punjab has clean and assessable toilets at public places in 16 urban local bodies out of 20 as per the citizen feedback status. All these urban local bodies (ULBs) have swachh Bharat mission toilets. Besides, sufficient water is available at 95% construction sites in these ULBs.
Talking to ETV Bharat, secretary to Department of Water & Sanitation Ajoy Sharma said, "Overall, Punjab has performed very well in the sanitation part and we are happy to receive this award on behalf of Punjab."
The Nawanshehar Municipal Council won the first prize as the cleanest city in the north zone which has the least population less than 1 lakh.
Similarly, Dirba Nagar Panchayat was ranked top city in the fastest movers category.
