Sangrur (Punjab): The Indian Farmer Union Unity held its meeting in Punjab's Sangrur district on Wednesday where they released a new list of farmers' suicide which also states that the suicide rate has doubled during the reign of Congress in the State.
Showing the list of suicides, the Farmer Union said that despite a multi-pronged approach to improve income and social security of farmers, over 1400 suicides have been reported during the reign of Congress in the state.

"Since the time of Congress government total of 1407 farmers have committed suicide in the state, including labourers and women. They committed suicide because they were debt-ridden," said one of the farmers of the Union.
He further said that the Congress had promised that if it comes to power, no farmers will have to commit suicide.
"The Congress government has forgotten its promises and given deaf ears to the farmers' issue. In fact, the suicide rate has doubled during its reign," he added.
