After Punjab, Rahul Gandhi to hold tractor rallies in Haryana on October 6, 7

Chandigarh: After Punjab, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit Haryana on October 6 and 7 to hold tractor rallies against the recently enacted agriculture laws, with the opposition party holding a meeting on Sunday in connection with the event.

Gandhi will hold the rallies in Kurukshetra and Karnal districts of the state, party leaders said.

The Congress leader, who arrived in Punjab on Sunday for a three-day visit to lead a series of tractor rallies against the Centre''s farm laws, will on October 6 lead a tractor rally which will enter Haryana, they said.

'Punjab BJP takes out tractor rally in Pathankot'

Pathankot: The Punjab BJP took out a tractor rally here on Sunday to make farmers aware of the benefits of the new farm laws, which have triggered protests in some parts of the country.

State BJP president Ashwani Sharma led the rally, which, the party said was joined by many farmers.    

Asked to comment on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Punjab visit to protest against the contentious farm laws, the BJP leader said, "He and the Congress are misleading farmers. These laws are for the benefit of farmers, but they are spreading the falsehood that MSP, mandis and government procurement will end."

"The prime minister and other senior leaders of our party have already given an assurance that all these will continue and farmers need not worry," Sharma told reporters.

Rahul Gandhi 'disconnected' with reality of farmers, says Muraleedharan

Kozhikode: Union Minister V Muraleedharan on Sunday slammed the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his protests against the Centre's new farm laws and accused him of being "disconnected" from reality and indulging in ''publicity stunts.''  

Addressing the media here, the Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, alleged that the Congress, which championed reforms in the agriculture sector and included it in their manifesto has now gone back on its word.  

"The party is resorting to violence and vandalism out of frustration of losing relevance in Indian politics," he claimed.

Ambala: Farmers in Punjab blocked the Amritsar-Delhi national highway and held agitations at several places on Sunday against three farm ordinances promulgated by the Centre. While different farmers' outfits raised slogans against the Centre for bringing the "anti-farmer" ordinances and demanded their rollback, commuters faced inconvenience due to the road blockade as the authorities diverted traffic.

Speaking to reporters here, president, Siromani Akali Dal (youth wing), Virender Singh said, "All the three laws of agriculture passed by the Modi government are anti-farmer rather than farmer-friendly. Until Prime Minister Narendra Modi withdraws these three black laws of agriculture, his sit-in demonstration will continue continuously."  

"If Prime Minister Modi will not withdraw these three laws of agriculture then the whole Punjab will do something like Delhi and will surround the Parliament,' he said.

Congress in-charge Vivek Bansal, state President Kumari Selja, leader of opposition Bhupendra Singh Hooda, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, Kiran Chaudhary, Deepender Hooda will be present in the meeting.  

Rahul Gandhi will lead the Kisan Yatra in Haryana from 6-8 October, sources said.

Farmers hold protest in Punjab, block Amritsar-Delhi NH

Chandigarh: Former Congress chief and MP Rahul Gandhi will kick start "Kheti Bachao Yatra" in Punjab on Sunday to protest against recently enacted agriculture sector reform laws.

A series of mass programmes have been planned which will begin from Punjab and will reach Delhi later. Initially, a three-day programme through rallies and roadshows using tractors has been planned.

Rahul Gandhi will address a public meeting and launch a signature campaign at Badhni Kalan, District Moga along with Punjab Chief Minister Captain (Retired) Amarinder Singh and other senior leaders of the State. Rahul Gandhi will then lead a "Tractor Yatra" from Badhni Kalan to Jatpura and will conclude the day by addressing a public meeting at Jatpura, Ludhiana.

The Congress has termed these laws as anti-farmer and the party has planned a month-long agitation across the country to reach out to the farming community. While some programmes were launched on September 24 they are scheduled to be concluded on November 14. The conclusion of the protest is planned through handing over a memorandum and signatures of over two crore farmers from across the country to President Ram Nath Kovind.

The Parliament has recently passed Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill 2020. These have received the assent of President Ram Nath Kovind and have come into effect from September 27.
