Punjab MPs protest against farm ordinances, burn copies of bill

Congress MPs from Punjab burnt copies of the farm bills proposed by the government inside the Parliament complex on Thursday. Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh also met Governor VP Badnore along with a delegation against these bills.

New Delhi: On the fourth day of the Monsoon session, Punjab MPs continue to protest against Farm Ordinances. On Tuesday, the Essential Commodities( Amendment) Act was passed by Parliament.

On Thursday, Punjab Lok Sabha MPs have burnt copies of bills based on farm ordinances in Parliament premises.

Dr Amar Singh, Ravneet Bittu, Gurjit Aujla and Jasbir Gill from Congress protested against bills. They raised slogans against bills.

Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance was being discussed yesterday. The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance will be discussed today. Amendment in the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 was approved on Tuesday.

MPs from all parties have opposed these bills and have called it anti-farmer. Sukhbir Singh Badal of Shiromani Akali Dal has voted against Essential Commodities Act 2020 (Amendment). He said that his party was consulted before drafting these bills.

Bhagwant Mann of Aam Aadmi Party has also opposed these bills strongly and it will strengthen private players and kill small farmers, aadtiyas and transporters.

There have been statewide protests in state and on Wednesday Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh also met Governor VP Badnore along with a delegation against these bills.
