Mansa: Morinda sacrilege case accused Jasvir Singh alias Jassi died after complaining of chest pain and breathing problem at Mansa Civil Hospital last night, police said. Jassi has been accused of entering the sanctum sanctorum of Gurudwara in Morinda, hitting the priests and desecrating the Guru Granth Sahib a week ago. He was lodged in Mansa's Tamkot Jail and was shifted to the hospital on April 29.
On April 24, after a video of the incident of sacrilege went viral, the Jathedar of Shri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh had condemned it and demanded stern action along with exemplary punishment for the accused. He said that it has hurt the sentiments of the Sikhs. Following which, Jassi was arrested by the police.
Responding to Jassi's death, Guru Pyariya Sangat said he had been punishment of his sin. Nobody from the family claimed his body. Even, ambulance drivers were not ready to take his body to Patiala government hospital for post-mortem.
The police were waiting for Jassi's family since morning but no member arrived to take the body. Then, the body was referred to Patiala government hospital by the Civil hospital staff. But, the private ambulance staff too refused to allow the body in his ambulance. "We will not even touch the body of the person who insulted the Guru Granth Sahib. An insult to Him is an insult for us," they said. After which, police called the government ambulance of the jail to take the body to Patiala. Following which, the Mansa police administration sent the body for post mortem.

Meanwhile, the Mansa Local Gurdwara Management Committee President Raghbir Singh said that the person who desecrated Sri Guru Granth Sahib has died but raised concern over rising incidents of sacrilege. Singh said that Jassi was arrested but stern action was not taken against him. He demanded the the government should investigate the case thoroughly.
