Chandigarh: When violent incidents are creating animosity between religious groups in the country, a unique kidney swap was successfully conducted between Hindu and Muslim donors at a private hospital in Chandigarh.

The families of Zubeida Bano from Srinagar and Ajay from Haryana were looking for suitable donors since their respective spouses' kidneys were a poor mismatch for each other.

Dr. Ramesh said that after conducting all the requisite tests, experts opined that the kidney of donor Zubeina's daughter was a good match for Ajay. Similarly, the kidney of donor Geeta, wife of Ajay was a good match for Zubeida Bano.

"Both families agreed to undergo surgeries for a paired kidney exchange, "Ramesh said.
