Ludhiana: While the fathers and sons/brothers have long monopolised names of firms, business and shops across the country, a signboard at a medical store with the name of woman and her father has been winning hearts on social media and people are hailing the store-owner for associating daughter's name with his business.
The image of the signboard shared on Twitter by Aman Kashyap has garnered over 6000 likes.
"Unlike all the shops opened in the name of sons, a medicine shop in association with 'Gupta & Daughters' spotted in Ludhiana," Kashyap wrote on Twitter his twitter handle while sharing the picture.
Smashing gender stereotypes, a businessman from Ludhiana named his newest business venture as-'Gupta and Daughters' as an ode to his daughter, Akanksha and all other women across the world.
The businessman- Manoj Kumar Gupta (54) who started his career as a building contractor and also owns a construction company named, 'Gupta and Sons'. However, three years ago, he started his second venture, a charitable pharmacy with 'Guru Nanak Modi -Khana' in Ludhiana's civil lines for which he was struggling to find a name.
"While brainstorming for names, was deeply inspired by 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' slogan and decided to go with this. Despite being the different-sounding name my family was happy when I told them about my decision. I had made up my mind and decided to give proprietorship to my daughter not just in spirit but also in name. It's a symbol of gender equality," said Gupta.
Akanksha, a law student said she considers herself a proud daughter of parents who are setting an example of gender equality and breaking the long-standing patriarchal norms. Her brother an MBA graduate also feels that they haven’t seen or read about anything like their father’s initiative, and salute his progressive mindset.
Gupta attributed his parents for instilling the right values and his wife, Rama for keeping their family banner flying high.
Gupta & Daughters has a tie-up with Sikh Welfare Council that provides medicines for free to the poor, needy and marginalised.
