Chandigarh: The nationwide protest against the Central Government's Farm Laws witnessed peaceful demonstrations in Punjab. Massive support for the protest was witnessed in Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Barnala, Amritsar, Mansa, Tarn Taran as well as other districts.
Punjab Youth Congress and Chandigarh Congress staged protest at Halomajra Chowk in Chandigarh. Long demonstrations were also led by Congress Mahila Morcha. Bhartiya Kisan Union Ekta Ugrahan also extended their support at Nabha in Patiala district.
On the other hand, security was beefed up outside the BJP headquarters.1500 police personnel were deployed in the district in connection with the Bharat Bandh.
In Jalandhar, the market and petrol pumps were closed. In addition, the National Highway was blocked by a group of farmers at PAP Chowk, Jalandhar. Ludhiana's traders extended full support to farmers as 'Chaura bazaar' was completely closed. Similar solidarity was witnessed in Barnala markets.
In Amritsar, 600 shops remained closed near the Golden Temple and a meagre number of devotees visited Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib. In Mansa, a march was organized by fraternal organizations and Safai Sevak Union.
Along with farmers, traders, lawyers, shopkeepers, petrol pump owners took to the streets to unanimously demand the repeal of the Farm Laws. Under the banner of All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee, more than 400 organizations from various states including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Telangana participated.
