Amid tensions, Pakistani woman gets married in Punjab's Patiala

Sarjit from Pakistan and Parwinder Singh from Haryana got married according to Sikh traditions at Gurudwara Khel Sahib at Patiala on Saturday. The couple was issued a marriage certificate by the gurdwara authorities.

Patiala (Punjab): Amid the recent tension between India and Pakistan, a woman from Pakistan's Punjab province married a Sikh man here on Saturday.

Sarjit from Pakistan and Parwinder Singh from the adjoining Ambala district in Haryana, took marriage vows according to Sikh traditions at Gurudwara Khel Sahib at Patiala, around 80 km from Chandigarh.

The couple was issued a marriage certificate by the gurdwara authorities.

"I am happy to be getting married here. I think that girls and boys from both countries should get married," Sarjit told media.

Sarjit belongs to a Hindu family settled in Pakistan's Sialkot district.

Her parents accompanied her for the wedding.
