Chandigarh: Responding to Aam Admi Party MP Bhagwat Mann's request for raising the issue of bribe allegations against Congress on Twitter, Navjot Singh Sidhu praised the opposing party on Tuesday. Mann had asked Congress MLA Sidhu to tweet on the issue of bribery allegations on the Congress from the power-generating companies. "I appeal to Navjot Sidhu to tweet on this issue as well as he has been tweeting every day on PPAs," he had said.
Responding to Mann's challenge, Sidhu took to it Twitter and said: "Our opposition AAP has always recognized my vision & work for Punjab. Be it Before 2017- Beadbi, Drugs, Farmers Issues, Corruption & Power Crisis faced by People of Punjab raised by me or today as I present “Punjab Model” It is clear they know - who is really fighting for Punjab." Congress rubbishes speculations
Congress MLA Raj Kumar Verka, on the other hand, rubbished speculations and added that Sidhu's tweet is being viewed as an attempt to create discord in Congress. "On the flip side, Sidhu has no such intention. He is not going anywhere," Verka said.
Meanwhile, Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat also spoke about the matter, saying, "There are few issues which he had raised like the Sacrilege matter, for which his views are in line with the party and Capt Amarinder Singh. The same is with the drug issue in the state. All I can say is that Sidhu has his own style of saying things. But I'm not capable of modifying his style of saying."
According to the sources, Sidhu is likely to be offered the post of a member of Congress Election Committee and the head of Campaign Committee for Punjab. Congress Rajya Sabha MP Pratap Singh Bajwa is expected to get the post of Manifesto Committee Chief for Punjab. Meanwhile, the announcement for a new Punjab Congress Chief, replacing Sunil Jakhar, will also be made soon.
Various other political leaders reacted to Sidhu's comment on AAP's 'observations'. Training guns on Sidhu and Congress Akali leader Charan Singh said that he is trying to escape the 'sinking boat—Congress'. "Sidhu is changing parties like he changes clothes," said Singh.
Targeting the cricketer-turned-politician, BJP leader Rajesh Bagha said it is not new for Sidhu to jump ships. Recently, AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal said in a public meeting in Punjab that his party's Chief Minister-face will be a person from the Sikh community.
Earlier today, political strategist Prashant Kishor—the chief political advisor of Captian Amarinder Singh—called on Congress scion Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in the presence of Captain and Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat.
