Malkangiri (Odisha): Two hardcore Maoists including a woman cadre surrendered before the Odisha's Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Rishikesh Khilari on Sunday.
The surrendered militants have identified as Kanna Madi and Lake Punem, a party member of the banned organisation which she had joined in 2018. Both were working as ACM in Koraput Border Division committee organisation.
Kanna, an active member of Area Committee, carried a bounty of Rs 4 lakh on his head. He was suspected to be involved in about 10 cases including murder, IED blast, and exchange of fire with the security forces. Similarly, Lake is suspected to be involved in a dual murder case and two accounts of exchange of fire.
The main reason both wanted to join the mainstream was that they realised about the futility of violent path of Naxalism and the rapid development works in Swabhiman Anchal areas attracted them to return to the mainstream society, SP said.
They both will be provided monetary assistance as per Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme of Government of Odisha and financial assistance for building the house, pursuing studies and training in a trade/vocational of their liking, informed the SP.
