Bhubaneswar: Noted Odisha playback singer Tapu Mishra passed away while undergoing treatment for Covid complications at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. She was initially under home isolation after testing positive and was moved to a private hospital where she was on ventilator support for a month.
Her lungs had suffered extensive damage and oxygen levels dipped dangerously before her family sought help from Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to shift her for specialized treatment outside the state. Her father had also succumbed to Covid in May.

Tapu had lent her melodious voice to a number of movie hits, albums and bhajans in her career spanning over two decades. Making her debut in Kula Nandan, the versatile singer had recorded for over 150 films. Condolences poured in soon after news of her demise spread.
