Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths in Odisha have arrested the District Education Officer (DEO) of Puri for allegedly possessing a huge amount of unaccounted cash, officials said on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, officers of the Bhubaneswar's Vigilance Division intercepted the DEO's vehicle on the Puri-Konark road on Friday evening and recovered Rs 1,11,000 from his possession, which he could not account for satisfactorily, an official release said.
An amount of Rs 92,000 in cash was also recovered from his house at Dumduma in Bhubaneswar, it said.
A criminal case has been registered against the DEO under different sections of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
He was later forwarded to the court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar and remanded to judicial custody till July 26.
