Bhubaneswar: An Ola driver was arrested on Monday in connection with a hit and run case killing four puppies near Sailashree Vihar in Bhubaneswar.
Chandrasekharpur Police said that the accused driver, Kanhu Charan Giri of Anandapur village has been arrested under sections 11 of prevention of cruelty to Animals Act, 279/429 IPC and 184 MV Act.
According to sources, a security guard and a local resident who witnessed the accident tried stopping the vehicle but the driver sped past them and fled.

The eye-witnesses, however, alerted animal right activists who rushed to the spot to take note of the incidence.
Demanding immediate arrest of the accused Ola driver, animal welfare organisation ‘People For Animals’ lodged a complaint with Chandrasekharpur Police.
It is to be noted that the police are conducting inquiries under various sections of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
