Odisha woman delivers baby outside hospital, newborn dies

A pregnant woman deprived of timely medical attention for delivery, lost her newborn baby in Athagarh of Odisha. She delivered her baby outside the Gurudijhatia Primary Health Centre premises.

Athagarh(Odisha): A pregnant woman delivered her baby outside a hospital in Cuttack due to unavailability of services at the Gurudijhatia Primary Health Centre on Sunday morning.

The newborn died after the woman visited another hospital for post-delivery treatment.

Kuni Maharana went to Gurudijhatia PHC after she suffered labour pain. Despite waiting for hours, she delivered a baby outside the hospital premises as the gates were closed.

The mother-baby duo were immediately rushed to the Berhampur Community Health Centre, where the newborn was declared dead. The mother is currently out of danger.

Meanwhile, Odisha health minister Naba Kishore Das has ordered a probe into the matter.

He has directed Cuttack CDMO and PHO to submit a report within three days.

Earlier, on Saturday when she went for a check-up, the doctor had asked her to come after four days with an ultrasound report.

A pregnant women was brought for delivery to Gurudijhatia Primary Health Centre in Athagarh block but health centre closed. Despite waiting for hours while the woman was in labour, she delivered a baby girl on road. On Saturday they came hospital for check up. but doc said to come after  four days following conducting an ultrasound on the patient. 

After the delivery, she along with her newborn was immediately rushed to Brahmapur Community Health Centre in Athagarh. Even though the woman was out of danger, her baby died at the hospital. after the incident helath minister Naba das directed Cuttack CDMO and PHO to conduct a probe and submit the findings within 3 days.
