Khunta: A 17-month-old girl was allegedly raped by her relative in Khunta block of Mayurbhanj on the evening of July 5, which further triggered protests to arrest the culprit.
The girl has been sent for medical evaluation and a complaint has been lodged in connection with the case.
S Mohapatra, Sub-Divisional Police Officer said: "A case has been registered under relevant sections and the minor girl is sent for medical evaluation."
He further added that the prime accused in the case is still absconding and a probe into the matter is underway.
More than 150 residents of Khunta area staged a protest here on Monday and demanded to arrest the culprits as soon as possible.
One of the protestors accused police of inaction. He also claimed that, besides nabbing the main culprits, the police were arresting the protestors under false charges.
